Recent global warming has caused extreme heat waves, heavy snowfalls, typhoons, wildfires and other abnormal weather phenomena around the world. In Korea, which has a high proportion of fossil fuels and a manufacturing-centered industrial structure, the average temperature over the past 30 years has risen by 1.4°C, intensifying the warming tendency.
To keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C, the transition to a ‘carbon neutral’ society with net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is being pursued, which has become an inevitable global challenge.
